Harmonic Convergence

Harmonic Convergence is performed on a synthesizer keyboard utilizing my collection of 64 harmonic tuning forks, individually sampled and assigned to the keyboard. The composition explores the harmonic series as an expanding field of relationships. Each harmonic has its own frequency and sonic identity, yet each arises from the same fundamental. As the harmonics ascend, their relationships become increasingly complex while remaining harmonically connected to their fundamental source.
I visualize Harmonic Convergence as the ancient image of Jacob’s Ladder. The harmonics become sonic rungs extending between Earth and Heaven. In Jacob’s dream, angels ascend and descend the ladder. In the composition, I imagine angels and our own dreaming selves moving among the harmonics, traveling upward and downward through an expanding field of sonic relationships.
