The Om Tuner (136.1 Hz) weighted is inspired by the ancient sound of “Om,” a tone that has been revered for centuries in meditation, yoga, and spiritual traditions around the world. Its deep, resonant vibration makes it a favorite among those who enjoy incorporating sound into their mindfulness, relaxation, and contemplative practices.
Designed for direct application on the body’s bony structures, the Om Tuner can be comfortably perceived when placed on areas such as the rib heads, thoracic vertebrae, sternum, sacrum, and iliums (hip bones). Many individuals enjoy exploring its rich vibration as part of their personal wellness, meditation, and yoga routines.
In the Indian musical tradition, the note “Sa” is considered the foundational tone from which all other notes emerge. For centuries, musicians and spiritual practitioners have used this tone as a point of focus for tuning instruments, cultivating presence, and preparing for meditation and musical performance.
The modern frequency of 136.1 Hz is associated with the work of Swiss mathematician and musicologist Hans Cousto, author of The Cosmic Octave. Using mathematical relationships found in natural cycles, Cousto calculated 136.1 Hz as the audible octave equivalent of one Earth year orbiting the Sun. Because of this connection, the Om frequency is often referred to as the “Earth Year Tone” and has become one of the most recognized frequencies in contemporary sound and meditation practices.
Whether used during meditation, yoga, sound exploration, or quiet reflection, the Om Tuner offers a beautiful opportunity to experience resonance, vibration, and the timeless relationship between sound and nature.
Hold your Om Tuner by the stem between your thumb and forefinger, using a relaxed grip. Gently tap the weighted ends against your knee, a tuning fork activator, or the outer palm of your hand. This will create a clear, deep, and sustained tone.
To listen to the sound, bring the prongs of the fork approximately one inch from one or both ears and adjust the distance to a comfortable volume.
The Om Tuner may also be applied directly to the body’s bony structures. First, locate the desired application point with your free hand. Activate the fork and gently place the end of the stem against the chosen area, maintaining comfortable contact until the vibration naturally fades.
Common application areas include:
- Rib Heads – The points where the ribs connect to the spine.
- Thoracic Vertebrae – The vertebrae of the upper and middle back.
- Sternum – The breastbone in the center of the chest.
- Sacrum – The large triangular bone at the base of the spine.
- Iliums – The broad upper portions of the hip bones.
You can also place the Om Tuner on the sternum, closing their eyes, and listening to the vibration as part of a meditation, mindfulness, or sound exploration practice. Some also choose to softly vocalize “Om” while listening to the resonance of the fork.
The Om Tuner may also be incorporated into bodywork, yoga, meditation, and sound-based wellness practices by applying it along the spine, sacrum, or other bony areas where the vibration can be comfortably perceived.
